Temporary Arrangements for Students to Work in Settings during Summer 2024

As a temporary measure specifically to help services with short-term staffing shortages over the summer period:

  • DCEDIY has arranged an accelerated process for assessment of equivalence with the level 5 minimum qualification requirement for students currently enrolled on a recognised level 6, 7 or 8 course.
  • Approved students will receive a Letter of Temporary Permission to Practice from DCEDIY.
  • Registered providers may employ a student who has a Letter of Temporary Permission to Practice to work directly with children attending an ELC service until 1 September 2024.

To be approved through the accelerated process for assessment of equivalence, a student:

  • Must be currently enrolled on a course on the list of DCEDIY Early Years Recognised Qualifications at level 6, 7 or 8
  • Must have successfully completed at least the first year of the course
  • Must have successfully completed a practice placement in-person in an ELC service
