Published list of Early Years DCYA Recognised Qualifications

Published list of Early Years DCYA Recognised Qualifications

We have just issued our end of year Newsletter and included within, is a published list of the Early Years Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) Recognised Qualifications .

What you need to do:

Take a look at this list with your staff team.  You need to check that their qualifications are on this list.

Why you need to do this:

The new Pre-school Regulations, which are currently being prepared, will require that every person working directly with pre-school children (with the exception of interns, students or volunteers) must hold a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) or an equivalent qualification.  Further, to be in contract for ECCE from September 2016, you will need to make sure that your ECCE Pre-school Room Leader has a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education at a minimum of Level 6 on the NFQ, or equivalent.

This list will enable employees working in the Early Years sector in Ireland to verify whether the qualifications they hold will be recognised.   If one of your staff members has a qualification that’s not on the list, you can apply to have it recognised.  Further information is available on the DCYA website (link below), or you can contact Dublin City Childcare Committee.
