Become a childcare provider

If you would like to begin a new career, start up a new business or set up a community group, the first thing you should do is read through the Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations 2006 for pre-school provision.

We would advise everyone who is thinking about pursuing a career in childcare to undertake training.  For those thinking about setting up a childcare service it is important to note that the Preschool Regulations outline the following recommendation:

"In centre-based services, it is considered that the person in charge should aim to have at least fifty percent of childcare staff with a qualification appropriate to the care and development of children. The qualified staff should rotate between age groupings."

There are a wide range of childcare courses and training sessions available for those who are seriously thinking about entering a career in childcare. These include short-term training courses, certificate, diploma and degree courses as well as postgraduate education.

For further information on establishing your own Childcare Service, please call our business support officers on 015424100 or email info@dccc.ie
